This band is why there is a GrooveTV. First brought together as an almost-impromptu afterparty at Palookaville for the Santa Cruz Hemp Expo, the AllStars featured members of two great local bands (Estradasphere, Netwerk:Electric), plus two other popular groups that had recently moved to Santa Cruz (Disco Biscuits, Sound Tribe Sector 9). We filmed one of their pure-improv shows at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.

Legendary jazz/funk drummer Mike Clark leads an amazing combo of Jessica Lurie (Living Daylights) and Brian and Reed from Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. More great closeups from DPz!

I really dug these guys and their funky electronica sound...too bad we haven't heard much from them of late. I could go for a good Indagroove K&H show about now!

Much loved for her guitar and vocals with Jambay and Pele Juju, Shelley Doty brings her X-tet to Henfling's, captured by the cameras of GrooveTV. Our first shoot at the chicken toss, the show features John Whooley on sax.

Late 2001 saw two popular bands in the jam scene relocate to Santa Cruz: Sound Tribe Sector 9 and the Disco Biscuits. When I first had the idea for GrooveTV, I asked each band for permission to shoot one of their shows. STS9 wasn't ready for it, but the guys in the Disco Biscuits liked the idea of being on cable public access.

the first GrooveTV episode, filmed single camera in the Catalyst atrium. Great band from San Luis Obispo, and the only time I've seen a band succesfully heckled into playing Meatstick. Watch for the pit stuff on the dance floor. TURKEY STEW!

We got Dennis Kucinich on GrooveTV! This episode is a personal favorite, and won a 2005 W.A.V.E. award.
