California?s demography continues to change, with the state predicted to be majority Latino within 30 years, even as immigration has been tapering off and the share of foreign-born in the state has been falling. At the same time, the California economy, once a beacon of opportunity, is now among the most unequal states in the nation and trends suggest that worse is yet to come. Dr. Pastor considers these questions on the state level and with their application to Santa Cruz County.
